Jesus emerges as the figurehead for a new world faith
The crowds followed Jesus because they thought he could heal the sick. But some of his miracles convinced them that Jesus was more than a wonder worker. The multiplication of loaves and fishes to feed a crowd of 5,000 was viewed as a sign. The Jews were on the look-out for a Messiah; someone to free them from Roman oppression. Miracles like these convinced many that Jesus was that saviour, and that's when things got dangerous. The authorities feared a revolution, so Jesus was arrested and condemned to death. It was a bitter blow for those who called him The Messiah. Afraid that they too might be arrested, they went into hiding.
That should have been the end. And you would have expected the story of Jesus just to have been forgotten like so many other Jewish rebels before him. And yet it wasn't. Instead, Jesus emerged as the figurehead for a new world faith, a world faith which even to this day holds him up and worships him as the Son of God.
